However, with their Vintage Modified series Fender has added a great drive channel into the equation. Historically, blackface Fender amps have been one thing. The dirty channel was my favourite part of the amp by all means. Sure it isn't the real deal vintage head, but for an $800 recreation, the Fender type clean that I expected was there and enjoyable. The tones are very classic Fender blackface clean to my ears. The clean channel has a very typical Fender layout of volume, treble and bass controls. The effects too were very intuitive and easy to dial in as well, which I felt was great for a modelling type amp.

I first tried it without reading through the manual or knowing how the controls interacted with one another and I was still able to get a very good variety of sounds with both channels. Made in Mexico, it is still better than China. In short, a good product at a budget price. I was thinking of using the Fender complement my JCM 2000 during my concerts (thanks to Two Amps One Cab P & P Amplification), but I realize that I could provide some small concerts with only the head fender and without pedalboard! And good surprise, the drive channel is really convincing! Purchased to replace my Vox AC15 C1 (which has a truly despicable crunch), I find an amp to clear his inimitable.

But other effects (chorus, delay) are of good quality and editing numerous enough buttons. Well, the reverb is invasive: no more than 1 or 2 knob in for me. Nothing too much though.Įffects: surprise! I have not bought the amp for it but I am forced to find that they are quite usable. One small criticism: the sound tends to compress when the gain is pushed. To give you an idea, the headroom is sufficient to properly play the metallica the good old days with a guitar with a humbucker. So no problem for entire range of sound between the purest clean and distortion. The crunch channel is under the hood as opposed to what I read in other reviews! And it is possible to return to clean with the gain to 2/3. No surprise to clean: this is the fender, and good! The pots are very reactive, which is quite significant. Left the clean channel, amid the crunch, the right effects. Simple configuration: channels each have their equalizer. Consider this, thousands of Fender amp heads from the 60's still floating around,a majority of them have 4 ohm OT's and are still working fine after almost 50 years and only god knows what speakers were plugged in along the way ! A good bet would be 4 ohms or higher. There are also some transistors (especially the clean channel).ģ usable and independent foot switchable digital effects. You can safely go UP in speaker impedance, 8 ohm speaker/ 4 ohm transformer.the theory is 2x up.but not 2 x down, the current load could cause damage. I would be curious to know the OT p/n used in the 8 ohm Bandmaster chassis mentioned above. Now I'm not saying that Fender never used an 8 ohm OT in a 2x12 Bandmaster, but if they did, there is no listed reference for it. Dual Showmans are the exact same amp with a 4 ohm OT. Now there are 8 Ohm Output transformers that Fender used, but typically they are found in single Showmans and capable of 85 watts. Supposedly gives the BMSTER a bit of clean boost. Many times players or techs would use the 50 watt Bassman Output Transformer in the Bandmaster chassis, also 4 ohms, pn 125A13A. The Bandmaster chassis standard issue is a 4 ohm Output Transformer, 125A6A.Speakers were either Utah or Oxfords, 8 Ohms each, in a parallel configuration making it 4 ohms.
